The Omaha Band Bringing People Together Through Music
For Omaha, Nebraska band Public Figure, music is about more than writing songs and performing on stage. It's about creating connections, sharing experiences, and bringing people together through something they love.

The Story / In Waves' Words
There's something special about a band that truly understands the connection music can create between people. It's one thing to write a song, but it's another to create something that makes an entire room feel connected.
That's exactly what Public Figure, an independent band from Omaha, Nebraska, is working toward.
Formed in 2019, Public Figure has experienced its share of changes while finding its direction. After several lineup changes, the band established its current lineup in 2023.
Although the group itself has been around for several years, each member has spent most of their life involved with music. Interestingly, they're all self-taught musicians, which makes their journey even more personal.
With new music on the way and an upcoming EP titled create/CONSUME, Public Figure has plenty to look forward to.

Finding Connection Through Music
When asked what keeps them creating music, Public Figure shared something that really explains what they're all about.
They love the feeling of people coming together through music.
The band describes it as collective effervescence, that overwhelming feeling of connection you experience when you're completely caught up in a song or live performance.
If you've ever been at a concert where everyone is singing along, or heard a song that made you feel like someone understood exactly what you were going through, you probably know the feeling they're talking about.
For Public Figure, creating that experience for others is what makes everything worthwhile.
They want people to connect with their music, but they also want people to connect with each other because of it.
Learning the Business Behind the Music
One thing I always find interesting about independent artists is how much work happens outside of making music.
Public Figure has learned firsthand that being in a band involves much more than writing songs, rehearsing, and playing shows.
There's marketing, accounting, contracts, scheduling, travel arrangements, and a long list of responsibilities that most listeners never see.
For musicians who simply want to create, that can be frustrating.
Public Figure admits that one of the biggest lessons they've learned is that great music alone isn't always enough to build a successful career.
You also have to understand how to operate the business behind it.
Instead of allowing those challenges to discourage them, they've chosen to approach each new responsibility as something they can learn from.
It's a mindset that has helped them continue moving forward while developing both their music and their understanding of the industry.
Building Relationships Along the Way
Another important part of Public Figure's journey has been networking.
The band credits much of its progress to the talented friends and supporters who have helped them along the way.
They understand that having a strong community around you can make a tremendous difference, especially when you're navigating the music industry independently.
For Public Figure, networking is about more than making contacts. It's about building friendships and creating opportunities to support one another.
They're always interested in meeting other musicians and exploring opportunities to collaborate.
That openness to working with others fits perfectly with their overall purpose of bringing people together through music.
New Music: sober HUNGOVER and create/CONSUME
Public Figure is preparing to release an EP titled create/CONSUME, a project built around the relationship between seemingly opposite ideas.
The concept explores how creating art often depends on consuming and experiencing the world around us.
Music, art, relationships, and personal experiences all have the ability to influence what an artist creates.
The band's first single from the project, sober HUNGOVER, explores an incredibly personal experience.
Lead vocalist Roger has been sober for nearly four years, but he began noticing something unexpected.
After experiencing panic or anxiety attacks, he would sometimes feel physically exhausted in ways that reminded him of the hangovers he experienced when he was drinking.
The song explores that connection between mental health, recovery, and the physical effects of anxiety.
Their second single, loving LEAVING, is scheduled for release on November 13.
This song focuses on the difficult realization that you can love someone while also understanding that having them in your life may no longer be what's best for you.
It's about finding the freedom to walk away from a relationship or friendship, even when that decision isn't easy.
Both songs explore complicated emotions that many people experience but don't always know how to explain.
What's Next for Public Figure?
Following a Midwest tour with Denver-based band Capture This, Public Figure is focusing on its upcoming releases.
The band plans to spend the winter promoting its music and preparing for the release of create/CONSUME, currently expected in spring 2027.
With new songs, growing connections, and a clear idea of what they want their music to accomplish, Public Figure is continuing to build its place in the independent music community.
My Take: What I Appreciate About Public Figure
What I really appreciate about Public Figure is that they understand the importance of connection.
Music can bring people together in ways that very few other things can, and I love that creating those experiences is such a big part of why they do what they do.
I also appreciate their honesty about the business side of being an independent artist.
I think a lot of people see the music, the shows, and the excitement, but don't always realize how much work goes on behind the scenes.
Hearing the band talk openly about those challenges and how they've learned to approach them says a lot about their dedication.
And I have to mention the meaning behind their upcoming music. I appreciate artists who aren't afraid to take personal experiences, even difficult ones, and turn them into something other people might relate to.
To me, that's one of the most meaningful things music can do.
I'm excited to see where Public Figure goes next, and I hope you'll take a little time to check out their music and support what they're building.
